The Fitbit Ionic: Adidas Edition, which was was announced back in August, alongside the standard version of the device, finally goes up for pre-order today. And a day after confirming the watch’s disappointments, the company is talking product again, announcing that the Adidas-branded version of the smartwatch is ready to launch - news it no doubt hopes will add a bit of a spring to the Ionic’s step. Of course, the wearable has improved a bit since its lackluster launch, after the company opened it up to third party apps. As CEO James Park put it during this week’s financials, sales on the device “didn’t turn out the way that we expected it.” It will become available in stores - including Amazon, Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods, Kohl's, Macy's and Nordstrom - on March 19th.The Fitbit Ionic was designed to be the future of the struggling wearable maker, but so far the smartwatch has failed to catch the world on fire. Fitbit lost $277.2 million last year and saw a 32 percent drop in the number of devices it sold compared to 2016. Yesterday, the company said during an earnings call that it would be working on a "family" of smartwatches this year and that they would be produced with mass appeal in mind. The workouts are short, on-screen routines, between five and 15 minutes long and include exercises aimed at improving strength, stability and speed, boosting your metabolism and guiding you through proper pre- and post-workout stretches. The Fitbit Ionic: Adidas edition is a running-focused smartwatch that comes with a breathable sport band, an Adidas-designed clock face inspired by race bibs and the Adidas Train app, which includes six workouts aimed at improving your running performance. Today, the company announces that the product of that collaboration is now available for presale. Last year, Fitbit announced it had entered a multiyear deal with Adidas - a partnership that would result in a new edition of the Fitbit Ionic and exclusive personal training programs to go along with it.
